As the branch of biology that seeks to understand the function of living things, it serves as the foundation for all medical knowledge. In the Department of Physiology and Biophysics, our faculty, trainees and students view the body and its functions through a holistic lens. Using the full range of available model systems, we learn how things work by taking them apart and putting them back together again. With curiosity, patience and determination, our goal is to deepen the scientific understanding of how the body functions, inform the development of novel therapeutics for diseases and improve human health.
